In this episode we officially embark on our RV adventure! Our friends, the Tenbarge’s, have also decided to tag along for the first five weeks of our trip too!
Our first stop is at the Twin Mills RV park near Shipshewana, Indiana. We chose this RV park for several reasons but mainly we wanted to test out our Thousand Trails membership to see what a Thousand Trails park is like. For those of you that aren’t familiar with Thousand Trails, it is a camping membership that for an annual fee gives you access to their member campgrounds across the country. Once you pay the annual fee you camp for free in one of their parks. While it may not make sense for everyone this membership paid for itself in 30 nights of camping so for full-timers like us this membership will easily pay for itself.
This park has plenty of recreational activities. Our site was just across from the playground and dog park which was super convenient. The stay was very friendly, the bathrooms were very clean and there is lots of roads for biking. There’s also a small lake on the back part of the property with kayaks and canoes you can rent. Overall we enjoyed the park, the mosquitos on the other hand were something terrible! We tried everything to keep them at bay but nothing worked.
During our stay we also visited nearby Shipshewana which is known for its thriving Amish community. We visited the Amish market and several other local crafts and artisan stores. Scott also surprised me with a new welcome sign for our campsite that was forged and cut by a local craftsman!
