Our decision to go fulltime, finally became real for me when we purchased the new RV. We had been talking about this dream of full-time RV travel for some time but until we made the BIG purchase, it wasn’t real for me.
The funny thing is, we bought our very first camper, a used 2012 Jayco JayFlight, less than a year before. You see, before we purchased the Jayco, we’d never even owned a camper and it had been nearly 10 years since we actually set-up a tent and camped! Yet here we were dreaming about a life on the road. (It’s ok, you can laugh at the absurdity of non-camping people jumping into full-time RV travel, I’m laughing as I type this, LOL). So, we bought a used camper to “try it out” and see if we actually enjoyed camping. Someday I’ll share with the misadventures we had with our first camping trip and the many others that followed, but long story short, we were hooked on RV-ing from our very first trip.
We loved every minute. We loved sleeping in our own bed every night, loved that we could get really close to the outdoors, loved having our own kitchen, loved being able to move when the weather changed but most of all we loved the family time.
One of the many lessons we learned with our first camper was that we really needed to understand how every part functioned on the RV. Especially if we were going to be living in this rig and living in unfamiliar places. We decided that it would be best to take the new camper out for trial trip before we actually hit the road.
In this video, we traveled to near by Huntsville, AL. We didn’t want to go too far in case we ran into problems but we wanted to go far enough that we felt like we had some miles under our tires. Additionally, Huntsville is home to the US Space and Rocket Center and we’d been wanting to take the kids. So we found a campground that was literally a stones throw from the museum and set off on first trip.
Huntsville was a fun neat city to visit and the US Space and Rocket Center was fantastic! The outdoor exhibits were showing their age but the indoor portion was phenomenal! We all loved see the rockets up close and taking in just how big they really are. We also took time to visit Monte Santo State Park, which was truly a gem in area. During our visit to the park we also found that they had a campground as well and while we liked the proximity to the Museum, we would have preferred the scenic surroundings of the park.
Check out the video and let us know what you think? Also, have you been to Huntsville? If so what were your favorites?
